Monte Vista

The Villa Inn Pub / Three Guys Pub: This place is a bit difficult to find, but the food is worth it. To get there, go to the Monte Villa Inn, and enter from the parking lot in the rear of the hotel. It is the venture of the Three Guys Farms— three young and ambitious Ukranians who run both a local farm and this restaurant. They really care a lot about how the food tastes, and they use a lot of ingredients from their own farm, in addition to other local ingredients. Their menu includes some delicious offerings from their native Ukraine, as well as pizzas, local brews, and cocktails. You can order a pizza and bring it home, as well. Friendly and local: check it out!

Fernandez Tacqueria: This place is one of our favorite Mexican places in the San Luis Valley. It is kind of a hole in the wall, located next to the laundry mat under the same name. The owner, Jose, is a lovely, friendly person who cares about how the food tastes, and makes really great chicken tacos, home-made chips with a great salsa…. yum. Jose has been trying to sell the place for a while, but go in there and enjoy it while you can! The hours are a bit unusual, as it closes on Saturdays, and is closed in the evening by about 7:30. It is a popular lunch & takeout spot . My recommendation is to call before you go to check and make sure they are open.

The Sunflour Cafe: This is a breakfast & lunch place, run by Mennonites. This area has large Mennonite and Amish populations who do a lot of farming and run a lot of local businesses. This place is lovely and friendly and full of local color. Their menu includes meat dishes, salads, sandwiches, and a whole variety of baked goods. The kids and sweet-toothy among us will enjoy their graham cracker fluff! The rest of us enjoy their breakfast burritos! Great for brunch.

Quincy’s Tavern: located in downtown Monte Vista, this is the place for “Steak and Spirits.” They have a small, set menu (see here) which consists of steak and potatoes. We aren’t steak lovers, so we haven’t been there, but people who are into steaks have told us that it is good.

Monte Vista also has the following fast food restaurants. (Google them up!)

Subway . Sonic . Dairy Queen (ahem, DQ) . Pizza Hut

Del Norte

Note: This is not meant to be an exhaustive list of restaurants in Del Norte. Check Google for a more complete list. Listed here are the places we personally patronize and recommend to our guests. Del Norte is about 15 minutes west of Monte Vista.

Three Barrel Brewing: This is a well-loved brewery located on the main drag in Del Norte. It can be very busy on weekends, especially during the summer or the height of ski season. They serve wood-fired pizzas, calzones, etc. The beer is great. Outdoor seating when the weather allows. Highly recommended. Lunch & Dinner

Windsor Hotel Dining Room : If you are looking for fine dining in the San Luis Valley, this is the place. It is located on the ground floor of the beautifully restored historic Windsor Hotel. We are pretty casual around here, so there aren’t a lot of fancy restaurants. Fortunately, this place has great food using a lot of local foods, upscale ambiance, and you can still wear your jeans (or not)! There’s also a bar area where you can order food. Lots of locals go here, and the prices are very reasonable considering the quality of the food.
